Education and Youth Development

The Education and Youth Development (EYD) Department leads youth work education, officer training, youth policy, and the use of National Youth Development Centres and Camps.

Mandate

• Undertaking Youth Work Education and Training Programmes in collaboration with other stakeholders involved in similar activities.
• Conducting short courses for Youth Development Officers to equip them with the skills and competencies needed for effective performance of their duties.
• Coordinating training activities of Youth Development Officers at State level.
• Engaging the review and application of the National Youth Policy.
• Initiating and monitoring the process and activities of youth mainstreaming in other MDAs.
• Encouraging the effective utilization of National Youth Development Centres and Camps.
• Coordinating professional duties at zonal offices.
• Collaborating with other interested stakeholders in the management of the National Youth Development Centres.
• Coordinating the organisation of recreational and sporting activities in Youth Centres and Camps.
• Undertaking advocacy, professionalizing, and institutionalizing youth work in the country.
• Facilitating the preparation and implementation of Agreements, including bilateral relations in youth work with other countries.
• Monitoring the delivery of the Commonwealth Diploma in Youth Development Work being conducted by the University of Abuja.

Functions

• Designing, coordinating, and implementing youth work education curricula and capacity building programmes nationwide.
• Overseeing the operation, maintenance, and programmes of National Youth Development Centres and Camps across the country.
• Mainstreaming youth development policies across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), and coordinating international bilateral agreements on youth affairs.
