Internal Audit

The Internal Audit Department ensures transparency, accountability, fiscal discipline, and proper stewardship of public resources across the Federal Ministry of Youth Development.

Mandate

• Continuous auditing and financial monitoring of all ministry budget allocations, expenditures, revenue receipts, and financial records.
• Comprehensive risk assessment and management to identify vulnerabilities and safeguard ministerial assets against fraud and inefficiency.
• Verification of strict compliance with the Financial Regulations, Public Procurement Act 2007, and government fiscal codes.
• Continuous evaluation of internal control systems to ensure robust safeguards against error, waste, and unauthorized transactions.
• Promoting efficient, cost-effective, and transparent use of public resources in the delivery of youth development programmes.
• Preparation and presentation of comprehensive audit reports and actionable recommendations to executive leadership.
• Providing independent, objective oversight to promptly detect irregularities and recommend corrective actions.

Functions

• Conducting routine pre-payment audits of payment vouchers, payroll variations, and procurement commitments.
• Conducting operational audits and value-for-money assessments on capital intervention projects nationwide.
• Investigating suspicious transactions and implementing preventive anti-fraud mechanisms.
• Monitoring and following up on the implementation of audit recommendations within agreed timelines.
