Network and Social Mobilization

The Network and Social Mobilization (NSM) Department coordinates youth stakeholder engagement, grassroots mobilization, voluntary youth organizations, civil society partnerships, and national youth forums for the Federal Ministry of Youth Development.

Mandate

• Design and organize programmes that enhance the voice and active participation of youth in national development and governance.
• Registration, accreditation, and supervision of all youth-focused NGOs, CSOs, and Voluntary Youth Organizations (VYOs).
• Supervise and monitor the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), The Scout Association of Nigeria (TSAN), and other youth networks.
• Organise and coordinate the activities of the Nigerian Youth Parliament and national youth legislative advocacy.
• Design and organize programmes on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE), peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and value re-orientation.
• Conduct national youth NGO assessment, tracking, and organize the national Conference of Youth NGOs.
• Coordinate National Youth Day, Africa Youth Day, International Youth Week, and Presidential Youth Forums.
• Mobilise youth for participation in local, regional, and international functions (UNGA, Commonwealth, African Union Youth Volunteers Corps, ECOWAS).
• Organize national youth rehabilitation, reintegration, and life enhancement programmes for youth in IDP camps and youth living with disabilities.

Functions

• Management and operationalization of the National Database for youth-focused NGOs (NYREG).
• Supervise and liaise with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), NYSC Foundation, and Citizenship & Leadership Training Centre (CLTC) on youth affairs.
• Promote excellence among youth through recognition and awards of excellence, talent fairs, and national exchange programmes.
• Engage with international organizations and development partners (UNESCO, UNFPA, UNDP, UNICEF, IOM, UN-Habitat, ECOWAS, AU, United Nations).
