FG COMMENCES WASTE TO WEALTH TRAINING PROGRAMME IN KATSINA, TARGETS 37,000 YOUTHS NATIONWIDE

The Federal Ministry of Youth Development has commenced the implementation of the Circular Economy Youth Empowerment Initiative for Climate Action (Waste to Wealth) in Katsina State, with the first batch of 200 beneficiaries undergoing training.

The programme, a flagship initiative of the Ministry under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, is designed to equip young Nigerians with practical skills in waste recycling, green entrepreneurship, climate action, and sustainable livelihood development.

Speaking on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, the Senior Special Assistant on Climate Action, Ms. Leah Akinfiresoye, appreciated the Katsina State Government for its support and commitment to youth empowerment.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, represented by the Head of Department, Youth Migration and Climate Action, Mr. Adedoyin Oyekan, commended the initiative and urged beneficiaries to remain focused and fully committed throughout the training, noting its importance in promoting self-reliance and sustainable development.

Speaking, on behalf of the Katsina State Governor H.E Umar Dikko Radda, Alhaji Sirajo Yazid-Abukur the hon Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, commended the Federal Government for bringing the programme to the state and reaffirmed the State Government’s support for youth empowerment initiatives.

The Hon Commissioner For Women Affairs who spoke on behalf of all the commissioners present emphasized the need to be gender sensitive.

The Director-General of the Katsina State Entrepreneurship Development Agency (KASEDA), Dr. Babangida Ruma, urged participants to embrace the philosophy of the circular economy by viewing waste as a valuable resource capable of generating wealth and sustainable livelihoods.

The Ministry disclosed that over 200,000 youths registered for the programme nationwide, with Katsina recording more than 16,000 registrations. The initiative aims to train and empower 37,000 young Nigerians across the 36 states and the FCT over the next two years.

The Federal Ministry of Youth Development remains committed to creating opportunities for young people, promoting environmental sustainability, and advancing a thriving green economy across Nigeria.
