Why Yo! Health Matters
Recognizing the growing health challenges faced by young people, Yo! Health is designed to empower youth with credible health information and access to essential services — helping them make informed decisions about their physical, mental, and social well-being. The initiative underscores that good health is fundamental if the nation’s youth are to achieve their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society. (Youth Initiative)
Focus Areas: The Six Strategic Pillars
Yo! Health is built around six key pillars that reflect critical health needs among young Nigerians: (Youth Initiative)
- Mental Health: raising awareness, offering support, and reducing stigma.
- Alcohol, Drug and Substance Abuse: Prevention and education to curb abuse.
- Communicable Diseases: Focusing on prevention, treatment, and education on diseases that commonly affect youth.
- Health Insurance (especially for youth in the informal sector): Improving access to affordable, quality healthcare.
- Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs): Promoting healthy lifestyles to prevent chronic illnesses.
- Sexual & Reproductive Health: Ensuring youth are educated and protected regarding reproductive health.
These pillars were selected based on evidence, data, and feedback from young Nigerians across the country to ensure the initiative responds to real needs. (Youth Initiative)
