The Federal Government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, is actively working to prepare young Nigerians for the global digital economy. In a major step toward this goal, the Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, recently embarked on a high-level mission to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to secure strategic international partnerships.
The mission is a key part of advancing the vision for the Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA), a flagship initiative designed to empower over seven million young Nigerians with digital skills, entrepreneurship training, and global exposure.
A Bridge to Global Innovation
During his visit, Minister Olawande met with the Sharjah Entrepreneurship Center (Sheraa), a renowned leader in youth-driven innovation. The discussions focused on how Sheraa’s expertise in nurturing talent can be leveraged to support NiYA’s ambitious goals.
“We are building bridges between Nigerian youth and global innovation ecosystems,” said the Minister. “Sheraa’s mission to nurture talent aligns seamlessly with our goal of unlocking the creative and entrepreneurial potential of our young people.”
In another significant development, the Minister announced a strategic partnership with GITEX Global, one of the world’s leading technology and innovation platforms.
This collaboration will culminate in a GITEX-powered National Digital Innovation Showcase, scheduled to take place in Nigeria from September 1-4, 2025. This event, implemented in collaboration with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), will provide a global platform for 300 high-potential Nigerian startups. These startups will gain international visibility, access to global markets, and tailored support to help them grow and scale.
This partnership with GITEX Global will serve as a crucial launchpad for Nigerian youth talent, directly connecting them with international opportunities and cementing Nigeria’s position as a hub for innovation and enterprise.
